are the gas prices to high in the united states?

by admin on June 4, 2010

at least in countries like japan where the gas prices are a lot higher than the united states they have other means of transportation. trains that run every couple minutes and buses that run every 10 min. if the US is going to have higher gas prices like other countries shouldn’t they be trying to get alternative methods to get around?

nope

Adel A August 27, 2009 at 5:06 pm

Not really. Try and find out how high they are in Europe, then you’ll feel lucky.

No.

I don’t have a problem with gas price.

i can handle $ 1.00 a gallon

neverdugdisco September 7, 2009 at 1:57 am

I live in San Diego and public transportation is a joke (but getting better) and the main thing is its not fair because in 2001 gas prices were about $1.50.. its too much of an increase too fast and the oil companies in the US are making record profits!

qwerty September 10, 2009 at 12:22 pm

gas is a bargain here compared to most parts of the world, we get it by the gallon whereas most other places do it by the liter, and at twice the cost!

another thing about america is most places in the US are farther apart, and most of our public transportation systems are far inferior to other parts of the world. if i could sell my car and ride a subway or high speed train everywhere, i would!

destiny September 12, 2009 at 2:08 am

when americans in general stop spending so much money in every aspect then MAYBE things will cost less..MAYBE

eldude September 12, 2009 at 11:59 am

I hear Iran is requiring their car manufacturers to only start making hybrids, but the US can’t do the same. Meanwhile, our automakers are on the brink of closing or moving. All fasinating to me.
Gas prices are too hi in the US and the restof the world. The reason our gas prices are cheaper here than other countries is because we also produce lots of oil and gasoline which drives foreign oil producer’s prices down or they cannot compete.

lvillejj September 15, 2009 at 10:47 am

Yes I would love to see high speed trains, and more monorails and less cars. It seams everyone here just loves to joyride around.

Sigma Kappa Love September 16, 2009 at 1:33 pm

Not nearly as high in other countries. In Europe it’s averaging $9 / gallon. If you think about how much it costs for oil to be shipped from the Middle East and how much it costs to drill and purchase from other countries and the fact that it’s a limited resource…I think we have it pretty damn good.

Kawaii September 16, 2009 at 10:51 pm

Absolutely. We need to have more forms of public transit!

Tin Foil Fez September 18, 2009 at 8:20 am

No. We do have plenty of buses , trains, ferrys, where I am.

Ahh_Sweet_Boredom September 18, 2009 at 8:43 pm

We do have alternative methods of transportation available, plenty of them; can’t force people to use them though. At least for another couple of years I’m sure the majority of the US population will opt to pay the higher gas prices in hopes that its only temporary.

Alison P September 22, 2009 at 3:13 am

As long as people are willing to pay, then the price is not too high.

dumdum September 22, 2009 at 4:34 pm

Why weren’t you serving up that crap when Clinton was president and gas prices went up slightly? Wait, you were all SCREAMING about high gas prices and wanted to protest!!!! Yes, and almost $4 for gas is way too HIGH for a war that accoring to lying CHENEY was supposed to mean CHEAPER gas prices for us!!!!!!!

libsticker September 23, 2009 at 7:29 pm

No, not when you consider you pay 4.00 a gallon for a coke and 17.00 a gallon for scope, and you don’t have to explore, drill, refine, ship on freighters, haul and set up gas pumps to get it. They just produce it, throw it in a can or bottle and you pay through the nose and never complain. How come we don’t have these questions for scope, beer, wine, soda, etc? Much more a gallon then gas.

kitty September 23, 2009 at 9:16 pm

Not really yet.. Althought its hard to pay what we normally pay but Europe is staggering. Uk for instance everything over there is horribly high.

vtjames33 September 25, 2009 at 2:47 pm

The prices are high but in Europe they are higher and in Iran they are rationing. Prices would come down if we were allowed to drill for oil domestically and of course build new refineries because refinery capacity is our biggest problem and they have maintainence issues up the wazoo.

cokezero100 September 28, 2009 at 1:46 am

That ought to make people take the trains more often

Emina H September 29, 2009 at 12:15 pm

yes they are high but it is OUR fault..
we should have been thinking economically for the future..
PLUS,people are still buying HUGE SUV’s with an even bigger gas tank, and they complain the most…
At least in europe and japan people use buses and trains more often…not to mention smaller cars..They are doing sumthing about it ..as for us we are just waiting for a solution…
:)

Mail Cheerleader October 3, 2009 at 12:03 am

No, I hope the price of gas hits $75 a gallon, so that we could, out of necessity, evolve from automobiles that require gas.

OK...... October 6, 2009 at 11:10 am

Kneel down America….to the almighty oil…….

harryd October 7, 2009 at 10:48 pm

I’ve been living in europe for the last five years and have never paid less than $6.50 per gallon. I drive most places, but here in town I use a bicycle and often take the train to the nearest big city.

zanthus October 9, 2009 at 5:02 am

I’m in Canada. You’re telling me that there is no public transportation available in the USA?? Come on.

Gas prices here are like 4.40 a gallon, something like 50%
more than what you guys pay.

labohemianartist October 12, 2009 at 3:20 pm

yes but haliburton doesn’t care. goo look at car ads they are all about gas these days.

1848 October 13, 2009 at 4:53 am

It’s easy to compare gas prices in the United States to the much higher gas prices in Europe and Japan, but America is different by merit of the huge masses of land in between cities and destinations. So much of this country is rural or semirural or must interact with urban areas that expand great distances that higher gas prices hurt us more than they do in Europe or geographically smaller countries.

Geographically smaller countries can more easily afford to lay more passenger rail down because there is less land to lay it down on. In America, such a venture is much more difficult.

Our truckers also haul longer distances, as well.

A German family might have relatives in Stuttgart and relatives in Berlin, but an American family? I know mine stretches from Nevada to Illinois.

Chef Trav October 16, 2009 at 11:37 am

Environmentalists should be cheering about high gas prices–and hoping for higher. The more the price goes up, the more likely people will change their habits and buy lower mileage cars, take public transportation, etc. Higher prices will also encourage and make profitable alternative energy sources as well as innovation.

serge October 18, 2009 at 2:04 am

When you say “they”, who do you mean? The government. If so, are you going to force people to take the bus and/or train? Who will pay for the costs for such a transformation?

What about those who live out west, midwest and south? Will it be economically feasible to take massive transit when everyone lives in suburbia and it will take 3-4 times as long it would in a car? There is no easy solution. Americans will continue to drive themselves around in whatever vehicle makes them feel special, regardless of the cost. And with every price spike, Congress will hold more hearings to tell us that they will take care of us. Do you feel better now that you have asked the question. Who is John Galt?

freepress October 21, 2009 at 3:58 am
