Will I still be able to drive my Mustang after gas runs out?

by admin on April 26, 2010

I love my 88 GT, will I still be able to run ethanol/any other alternative 50 or so years from now.
Also, will it be as fast?
Thank you.
Yup in 50 years or so i’ll still have it and i’ll still be smoking hondas :D

as much as you love your car,I don’t think its gonna make it another 50 or so years.

I suspect that gasoline may be available in small and expensive quantities. There are some biofuels that work just like gasoline – I’ve heard butanol comes close.

Converting it to ethanol would be a pretty big undertaking – you’d need to replace the injectors, fuel lines, and computer, as well as either replacing the gas tank or having it lined with something ethanol resistant. It’s possible, though – I’ve personally seen a mid ’80s Mustang successfully converted to ethanol, and it made 390 horsepower at the rear wheels. And it wasn’t a 5.0 – it was a 2.3 Turbo. But either engine could be converted.

Ethanol is more detonation-resistant than gasoline, so yeah, it’ll be fast. There are dragsters that run ethanol.

You’ll probably have to replace every rubber part of the fuel system to run ethanol…might as well rebuild the entire engine and replace/remap the ECU (or adjust the carb, if that’s what you’ve got). But yeah, you’ll be able to run ethanol if you’re willing to do the work to make it work.
